May 1945 Official Guide reprint

This issue of the Guide documents the transition between steam and diesel, between heavyweight and streamlined trains. World War II placed extreme demands on America's rail infrastructure and passenger loads were at their highest level since the 1920's. Following the war, the railroad passenger industry began the long slide into years of decline and revenue losses that culminated in "train-offs" and finally Amtrak. Like all of our book reprints, the 1945 is printed on high-quality, acid-free paper.
